Hey girl, so you got your period? Well, that means you’re a woman now. Time to forever be responsible and prepared. FYI you might be in for a fair bit of regular pain. Also, check out all the period paraphernalia to get familiar with (quietly). Fun fact: In Australia since 2000, women have had to pay a Goods and Services tax (GST) on all feminine hygiene products because they were wrongly classed as ‘non-essential items’, in other words ‘luxury products’, unlike Viagra and nicotine patches, which are exempt. And bizarrely, Australia is not the only country to have this bloody luxury tax, it’s is a bloody outrage! Thankfully, in January 2019, Commonwealth state and territory treasurers finally unanimously agreed to remove the GST from feminine hygiene products. About bloody time.      

Now, birth control, thank god for it. But seriously, some female contraceptive methods are hectic af, invasive, come with potential medical side effects or a game of hormone roulette. Here’s to all the women taking contraceptive responsibility, dealing with the financial, physical and social implications. Let’s support the development of more options for male contraception and give the men a chance at gender equality through equal responsibility!
